Plein air painting Florida's natural beauty in oil is my main focus, although I also enjoy drawing with pastels on toned paper and painting miniature water colors on location, and I work in the studio part of the time. All of my plein air picture frames are custom made for me by a professional woodworker.

I taught traditional art and oriental art through the Board of Education and Saint Petersburg College, and have lectured and demonstrated painting techniques in different venues throughout the Tampa Bay area.

My first oil painting was a small plein air in the woods of Akron Ohio created as a teenager. I continued to study plein air painting in college with Judith Myers at the University of Akron in Ohio where I received a BFA in Painting. Continuing my studies expanded my knowledge with the brush so I can use various techniques to achieve a desired result.

Living in the Tampa Bay area has given me the opportunity to study with two well known miniature artists; Joan Willies and Jeanne Dunn. Clearwater is home to the longest running International Miniature Art Society in America. Studying this form of painting gave me a background in traditional old master techniques. Oriental painting provides a unique perspective in technique and visual knowledge which is very useful when painting on site. I studied traditional Sumi e, Japanese painting with Mitsuko Sakata in Ohio and with internationally renowned Chinese painter Diana Kahn. I also studied at the Morean Art Center in Saint Petersburg with Christopher Drake, who taught alla prima painting.
