Ormond Beach Paint Out at Tomoka Basin State Park was a fabulous place to paint. It was even better than Ozello with better facilities, including indoor restrooms, picnic area, camping, a camp store and restaurant with inexpensive food and a beautiful view. And the off road parking is very easy. Barbara Perrotti was our gracious host and guide. She was kind enough to give us a tour of what she called 'the loop'. A series of paved and unpaved roads that traverse the Tomoka River and salt marshes. Absolutely breathtaking scenery! Many exotic palms and the usual Sabal palms as well. We found lagoons, salt marshes, rivers, intracoastal waterways and the ocean all within the park. Lucky Barbara lives just down the road from the park entrance. She also took us to a charming botanical garden and art museum very close to the park. It was wonderful with waterfalls, ponds, all kinds of flora, etc. There are so many places to paint in the area. I can't wait to get back there again!

Plein Air Florida groups from around the state had seven painters show up, and all had a wonderful experience, including being serenaded by a bagpipe player in full Scottish regalia. And, an exciting run-in with a very large diamond back rattlesnake (observed carefully from inside the car). I met Tim and his friend who painted out of the park. The others produced some marvelous paintings. And I got two decent paintings, one on A1A at Ormond Beach and the other in the park itself. If you weren't there, then you missed the best trip ever!
