A loyalty to pastels developed slowly but became a complete passion when Dorothy began working on location. She says that, "when your childhood is spent hiking mountains, exploring caves, ghost towns, border towns and working on a ranch; it is not much of a leap to work en plein air."

Ms Gardiner is an instructor of pastels en plein air at Dunedin Fine Art Center in Dunedin. She has also demonstrated her plein air pastel painting techniques at the Museum of Fine Arts in Saint Petersburg and The Ringling Museum of Art in Sarasota. She will be teaching at Colorado Mountain College in Breckenridge during Summer 2007.

Dorothy earned a BS in Communications and Theatre from Temple University. She has since studied with some of the best landscape painters in the USA. She first studied with Deborah Paris, then Ken McIndoe, Lorenzo Chavez and Albert Handell.
